Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has sought the assistance of the Danish Government for the dredging of the River Benue to mitigate the persistent flooding affecting communities, agricultural lands, and livelihoods in the state.
During discussions with the Danish Ambassador to Nigeria, Sune Krogstrup, at the Government House in Yola, Governor Fintiri outlined various state challenges, including hunger, climate change, and sporadic insecurity, but emphasized the critical issue of river silting causing sleepless nights for both officials and residents. 
Fintiri expressed gratitude towards Denmark for its contributions through the IOM and other partners, significantly aiding the state’s humanitarian crisis management efforts.
The Governor highlighted the urgent need for Danish support to combat the worsening silting of River Benue, alongside existing challenges of climate change and hunger. He detailed the annual flooding’s catastrophic impact, leading to loss of homes, farmland, valuables, and even lives.
Despite economic constraints, Fintiri noted the state’s effective resource utilization to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) from neighboring regions, adopting various strategies to ensure security and peace in Adamawa.
Ambassador Krogstrup’s visit, aimed at understanding IDP challenges, underscored Denmark’s commitment to addressing global development needs, highlighting climate change as a significant obstacle for access to water and reaffirming Denmark’s notable contributions to the IOM and development initiatives.
The ambassador emphasized Denmark’s ambition to amplify African states’ voices, particularly Adamawa’s, in global forums like the UN Security Council, aligning with its development and humanitarian goals.
