The commissioner of Health and Human Services in Adamawa State, Chief Felix Tangwami has expressed government commitment at eradicating Lassa fever outbreak in Adamawa State.
Chief Tangwami gave the indication in a Press Briefing to update the general public on the reported case of the Disease at the Damare NYSC Permanent Orientation camp in Girei local Government area last week.
The commissioner recalled that the ministry announced outbreak of the index case following a positive confirmation of an investigation of a sample result by National Reference Laboratory taken from an NYSC member posted to Adamawa state for national assignment.
Chief Tangwami maintained that the fever is characterized by general weakness and sickness, headache, sore throat, Muscle Pain, Vomiting, Diarrhea and cough among others.
The commissioner of health who recalled record of the index case on the twenty second of February, 2024, commended Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for personally responding by putting a call to the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare to assist the state.
According to him, the prompt action by the Governor yielded a positive result.
The Adamawa State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Chief Felix Tangwami also advised People to avoid overcrowded areas or excessive exposure to sun and heat waves and also maintain a personal hygiene on this heat period.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Health, Pharmacists Mathias Bubanani commended the Health Workers for their effort on treating the outbreak of diseases, calling on them to be on alert at all times for emergency situations.
The event was attended by the Chairman Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Saidu Bashi and that of Hospital Services Management Board Dr. Zainab Komshi among others, All expressed commitment for responding to emergency outbreak of diseases in all parts of Adamawa State.
