The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has declared the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mahmud Musa Kallamu as the winner of the Mayo Belwa State constituency re-run election conducted on Saturday.
The Appeal Court had in 2023 nullified the Mayo Belwa constituency inconclusive and ordered a rerun in 7 polling units.
Announcing the result in Mayo Belwa, the returning officer, Professor Mohammed Baba Ardo of Modibbo Adama University Yola, said that Kallamu of the PDP got, three hundred six votes against the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ibrahim Musa Italiya who scored eight hundred and seventy-four notes in the just concluded re-run election.
Professor Baba Ardo recalled that that, during the 2023 general election Ibrahim Musa Italiya was leading 7912, while PDP’s Kallamu was following with 7840.
However, Professor Ardo, declared Musa Kallamu who scored a total of 9,146 in both the general and re-run elections winner against his opponent of the APC Ibrahim Musa Italiya, who got 8786 votes in the two processes.
Meanwhile, the winner of the election, Mahmud Musa Kallamu in an interview with newsmen, expressed gratitude to the people of his constituency for reposing confidence in him through their votes in the Saturday’s re-run election, and commended the efforts of INEC and security agents for ensuring the success of the exercise.
Kallamu called for more support from his constituents and promised to do his best in accordance with the mandate given to him by his constituents.
On his part, the Secretary, Mayo Belwa local government council, Mahmud Njabari while congratulating the good people of Mayo Belwa, said he is confident that Kallamu is the right man for the job.
Hundreds of PDP supporters stormed the streets of Mayo Belwa to celebrate the victory of Mahmud Musa Kallamu.
