NPC Launches 2024 Verbal and Social Autopsy to Improve Maternal and Child Health in Adamawa State

The National Population Commission has launch the 2024 Nigeria Verbal and Social autopsy aimed at ensuring wellbeing of mothers and children across Adamawa State.

The Federal Commissioner, Dr. Clifford T.O Zira had while speaking to Newsmen in Yola, said the exercise would serve as crucial survey designated to provide insights into causes of under-five and maternal deaths across communities.

The Commission is partnering with the Federal Ministry of Health to implement the exercise nation-wide.

Federal Commissioner of the National Population Commission in Adamawa State, Dr. Clifford T.O Zira, said the roundup of Verbal and Social autopsy will build on previous efforts from 2014-2019 to provide information that helped shape health policies and interventions aim at reducing preventable deaths.

Dr. Clifford informed that the exercise seeks information that would help government understand and plan to address the biomedical and social causes of death of children under-five age and for women of reproductive age.

According to him, the exercise would be carry in the twenty local government areas with the exception of Toungo because of its hard to reach areas.

The National Population Commission Federal Commissioner also urged the public to cooperate with the interviewers’ assign for the assignment.

Dr. Clifford commended the contributions of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri towards the works and activities of the National Population Commission in Adamawa State.

Contributing, the Team lead, of the Verbal and Social autopsy, Mr. Abubakar Ibrahim said the personnel would work to ascertain the specific information on the adult women.

Earlier, the State Director of the National Population Commission, Hajiya Fadimatu Halidu said the Verbal and Social autopsy exercise which commenced 4th November would go a long way of providing data to contribute for accurate information in achieving the aims and objectives.
