Students on the new campus of the Adamawa State University Mubi, have expressed concerns over the lack of sustainable power supply, commercial center, poor security, and the increased cost of dormitories.
This comes barely a few years after the approval of the Adamawa state government to split the state’s owned university into two campuses, the main campus; Boni Haruna Campus, in Mubi North, and the new campus, named; Abubakar Barde Campus, located at Gidan Madara, Mubi South.
In statements on 21st, September and 18th, October 2023, the Management of Adamawa State University, Mubi, had directed its Faculty of Education and some departments in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, with the Faculty of Agriculture as well as departments of Political Science and Business Administration to relocate to the Abubakar Barde Campus.
This is coming despite the fact that work is still ongoing in some parts of the university’s new Campus.
The relocated students who expressed displeasure, suggested that the move had to be at a satisfactory time than now.
A Female Student of the University, who pleaded for anonymity, lamented that they are facing daunting challenges, including lack of sustainable power supply at night.
She added that there is a scarcity of hostels to accommodate all the students on the new campus.
Also, she complained that the fees for students’ hostels in the university have been increased from 18,000 naira to 40,000 naira, hinting that, some students are finding it difficult to settle with.
She also expressed concern on the fact that they do not have a commercial center in the institution and adequate security.
Some other Students, equally appealed to the management of the institution and the Adamawa state government to speedily complete the university’s new campus structures with all needed infrastructure, and provide them with additional student buses.
All efforts to reach the University’s Management, against the backdrop proved abortive.
