Following the launch of the second round of National Immunization-Plus Days 2023, Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, has made a passionate appeal to traditional and religious leaders, parents, and caregivers, to support the exercise.
The Executive Chairman of the agency, Dr. Sulaiman Sa’idu Bashir, made the call in Yola, during an interactive session with the media on the second round of the National Immunization-Plus Days in Adamawa State.
Dr. Sa’idu Bashir said the agency targets over one million children of 0-5 years across the 21 local government areas of the state in the exercise scheduled for 11th to 14th November 2023.
He said the immunization is meant to build the immunity of children against polio, particularly those born after 2016 when Nigeria was certified polio-free.
The Executive Chairman of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, said though, since 2016, Nigeria has not recorded any case of wild polio, the immunization is necessary in order to sustain Nigeria’s polio-free status, adding that some Nigerians still travel to countries that battle with the disease.
He recalled that during the first round of the Immunisation exercise, the agency has successfully vaccinated 1.3 million children as against the targeted 1.29 million children, urging parents and caregivers to present their eligible children, for the current exercise to also record succ
Dr. Sulaiman Sa’idu Bashir, who assured Adamawa people that the vaccine is very safe, said the teams of vaccinators are currently visiting houses, mosques, churches, schools, and other strategic locations to ensure that all children of 0-5 years are vaccinated.
