As teachers in Mubi join their colleagues in the rest of the world to mark this year’s World Teachers Day, government and parents have been advised to complement the efforts of teachers.
World Teachers’ Day which is celebrated annually on October 5th, is a day of recognition and appreciation for teachers around the world.
The day serves as an occasion to celebrate the profound impact teachers have on society by equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and values needed for success.
It also serves as a reminder of the importance of quality education and the role of teachers in achieving it.
The theme for this year’s event is “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: the global imperative to reverse the teachers shortage.
It is against this backdrop that the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Teachers, Mubi Branch, Mr Yakubu Hamman Tukur, while highlighting the roles teachers play in developing society, advised parents to double their efforts in educating their children.
The teacher said it is discouraging that some students go to school without writing materials.
Mr Yakubu who decried that some teachers spent over a decade in grade level lll without promotion, called on the government to implement teachers’ promotion.
Also speaking on teachers’ promotions, the Principal Of Mubi One Secondary School, Mr Dauda Thomas revealed that some teachers were promoted for a long period but it was not implemented financially.
The Principal said, for a conducive atmosphere of learning and security, Mubi One Secondary School needs fencing.
From the Government Girls Secondary, Lokuwa, the Vice Principal of the school, Mrs. Polina Kwaha lamented how teachers are being devalued in society.
If education plays a central role in the development process, then collective efforts must be put in place to salvage teachers and the sector in general.
