Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has launched the distribution of farm inputs to 40,000 households in the state. This initiative, targeting primarily women and youths, aims to revitalize the agricultural sector amid significant challenges facing farming communities.
The support is provided under the Multisectoral Crisis Recovery Project (MCRP), which the governor highlighted as crucial for economic growth and the welfare of the populace. Key achievements under the MCRP include the revitalization of a dormant fish hatchery, the Margar irrigation scheme, four demonstration farms, and upgrades to essential facilities at the College of Agriculture in Ganye.
Represented by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, Governor Fintiri emphasized that the livestock productivity enhancement program is designed to improve livestock health and productivity through targeted interventions in veterinary services, disease control measures, and training for livestock farmers.
Dr. Maurice Vunobolki, State Project Coordinator for MCRP, stated that the support aims to boost agricultural production and the value chain for 40,000 households through 1,000 cooperative societies. The distribution includes complete mini-mechanized farm tools and certified seeds for maize, rice, and soybeans.
Serena Cavicchi, Co-Tax Team Leader and Head of North-East Operations at the World Bank, emphasized the bank’s commitment to making the intervention sustainable. Cavicchi noted that the support would help cooperative societies address the significant food and nutrition crisis in the future.
Mr. Justine Clement, speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, pledged the judicious use of the farm inputs received.
