Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Media practitioners in Yola the Adamawa State Capital have been urged to ensure Justice, equity and fairness in their reportage in ensuring peaceful, credible, violence free and acceptable elections
This is one of the outcomes of a three day workshop organized by Dar Al Andalus Centre for conflict resolution and peace building in order to remind Journalists on their responsibilities towards bringing peace in the Society.
The workshop which took place at Dantsoho hotel in Jimeta, had in attendance journalists and media Chiefs from all media organizations across the State
The workshop featured presentations of Sharia intelligence, constructive Alternative narratives, humanitarian reporting and the role of Journalism in the prevention of extremism and violence.
In his presentation on Sharia intelligence via zoom from Minna, the Niger State capital, Dr Nurudden Lemu who doubles as the Chairman of the Centre made it categorically clear that the activities of terrorists across the globe has nothing to do with Islam.
According to him, Prophet Muhammad SAW lived in peace with Jews and Christians during his lifetime, hence the need for all and sundry to emulate him to ensure peace and unity.
Earlier in his welcome address the Chairman of the workshop Dr Bala Mohammed welcomes all those who attended the workshop, explaining that the workshop was aimed at encouraging journalists on their day to day activities with a view of ensuring peace and unity between different religions.
One of the facilitators at the workshop Dr Abubakar Alhassan of Mass Communication department at Bayero University Kano who presented a paper on peace journalism opined that peace and unity is the central point of Journalism, explaining that Journalist should be just, fear and credible in their reportage.
Another facilitator Dr Aliyu Dawobe in his presentation on humanitarian reporting said emphasis should always be given to the victims rather than any other organizations in writing the report, explaining that Journalist should focus on the immediate needs of the displaced person in order for them to develop confidence of getting out of their current predicaments.
On his part, Manager of the workshop Maalam Jaafar Isa explained that the workshop was aimed at reminding journalists on their critical role in information dissemination for the benefits of the general public without any bias.
According to him, participants at the workshop should appropriately use the knowledge they have acquired towards changing the negative believe of some people that terrorists are representative of Islam, saying Islam is a religion of peace.

Other General Managers who attended the workshop were Alhaji Musa Waziri Hardawa Nas FM Yola, Dahiru Garba Mohammed Fombina FM Yola, Bilkisu Usman General Manager NTA Yola and the General Manager of ATV Yola.
Highlights of the workshop were the presentation of certificate of attendance to the participants and group photograph among others.
The workshop which started on Wednesday 5th October, 2022 ended happily on Friday October 7th 2022.
