Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with the State Ministry of Health, UNICEF and other partners, has organized a one day multi sectoral stakeholders meeting on mainstreaming Adolescents Health, in Primary Health Care Service delivery in the State.
The meeting, which held at the Board room of the Agency, had in attendance religions and traditional leaders, security personnel, media and faith base organizations among others.
While speaking at the meeting, Adamawa State Commissioner, Ministry of health, Chief Felix Tangwami, says Adolescents constitute a large number of people in the community, hence the need to put more effort on their health, in order to avoid wide spread of diseases in the society.
In his remark, the Executive Chairman Adamawa State primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Suleiman Saidu Bashir, said the purpose of the meeting is to engage critical stakeholders to discuss the peculiar needs of adolescents, with a view to providing lasting solutions to their health challenges.
Earlier, in her address of welcome, the programme officer, Adolescents health at the Agency, Hajiya Fadimatu Hammajoda, who said the objectives of the meeting is to discuss how to ameliorate health related issues among adolescents in the State, equally said the agency will train two health workers in each of the 406 facilities across the State, to ensure success of the programme.
In his presentation on peculiarities of adolescents and strategies to mainstream adolescents health in primary health care service delivery in Adamawa State, Dr Asondolobe Badeson Nickson, identified sexual behavior, nutrition, accident and drugs abuse as the major problems facing adolescents in the society.
Dr Nickson, who said addressing the peculiarities of adolescents in the society, requires proper sensitization from relevant stakeholders, also explained that introduction of civic education as a subject in primary and secondary Schools, is a good step in the right direction.
While presenting a paper title; building effective partnership among keys actors, Dr Usman Ahmed Dada, urges relevant stakeholders to key into the programme towards ameliorating health challenges confronting adolescents in the society.
