Adamawa LG Polls: Reserve Deputy Chairmanship Positions For Women, PDP Women Leader Urges Other Parties.

By Tasi’u Hassan

Women in Adamawa State have urged other political parties to reserve the deputy championship seats for women in the upcoming local government council election in the state.

This call comes after Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri directed the People’s Democratic Party to reserve deputy Chairmanship positions of the 21 local government areas of the state for women.

At a press conference under Women in Politics Platform Adamawa State organized by Garga Foundation on promoting women’s participation in the upcoming local government elections in the state, the Adamawa State PDP Women leader, Dr Susan Mark Zira, commended Governor Fintiri’s decision to allocate deputy Chairmanship positions to women.

She also praised the governor for appointing women to various strategic positions in his administration, a development she said has elevated the status of women in the state.

“We gather here to celebrate democracy day in Adamawa because democracy is working in the state. The reason is because of leadership that has the masses at heart. The governor is democratic in action we are calling on every party to make sure they are celebrating democracy”, Zira added.

The women leader also called on the PDP stakeholders to allow the party’s local government women leaders to serve as the deputy chairmen, given the fact that they have proven to have the required party loyalty and capacity to be appointed to such positions.

While thanking the Garga Foundation for its immense support to women politicians, Dr Susan Mark Zira urged women to massively vote for their fellow women in the July local government council election in the state.

“Garga Foundation is strongly supporting women because it knows the potential of women. When women occupy the corridors of power, there will be real development”.
