Adamawa state government has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee on payment of three billion naira gratuity to retirees released by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.

Inaugurating the committee on behalf of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, Secretary to the State Government, Auwal D Tukur said the governor is concerned with the issue of gratuity, hence the release of the fund to alleviate the sufferings of the retirees.

The SSG, who encouraged the committee to ensure timely completion of its assignment, so as to clear backlogs of the gratuities, says the committee is expected to, amongst others, oversee the payment of the three billion released by the governor, ensure payment of gratuity is on the date of retirement beginning with the earliest retirees and followed sequentially.

Speaking, the Chairman of the Committee, Engineer Benson D Jelani noted that the system has contributed to the situation retired civil servants found themselves, thus describing the release of the gratuity by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri as a vital drive towards ensuring the sacrifices by civil servants are worthy.

He explained that the Contributory Pension Scheme “Pay As You Go” does not align with the present economic reality.

Engineer Benson Jelani assures unwavering commitment to disbursing the gratuity fairly and squarely stating that any setback will be incidental, not intentional.

The committee is to complete the task and report back within two weeks.
