The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Adamawa State Chapter, has bestowed an Award of Excellence upon Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri in recognition of his immense contributions to healthcare delivery in the state.
Dr. Yunusa Dahiru, Chairman of the NMA Adamawa Chapter, who presented the award, praised the governor for his visionary leadership and dedication to improving healthcare services.
Dr. Yunusa pointed out that Governor Fintiri’s implementation of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) and the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) has been a game changer for healthcare workers, ensuring better welfare and attracting medical professionals to the state.
Dr. Dahiru emphasized that Governor Fintiri’s backing has enhanced the quality of healthcare in Adamawa, curbing the brain drain of doctors and health workers both within and outside the state.
Among the governor’s milestones, the NMA celebrated the construction of seven new cottage hospitals, the establishment of the Adamawa State Health Insurance Scheme, and the provision of funds for vulnerable citizens, which has eased the burden on the less privileged.
Furthermore, the Chairman applauded Governor Fintiri’s role in transforming Modibbo Adama University into a full-fledged conventional university, which now facilitates the training of medical doctors and allied health professionals.
He also gave kudos to the governor’s prompt response during the recent cholera outbreak, while recognizing his leadership across various sectors, including revenue generation, agriculture, small and medium enterprises, and infrastructure development.
In a gesture of appreciation, Dr. Dahiru acknowledged the governor’s contributions to infrastructure in Yola South, where access roads and drainage systems were constructed. Notably, one of the roads has been named after the governor’s father, Umar Badami Road, a nod to his lasting impact on the community.
The NMA Chairman also shed light on the association’s own initiatives, such as organizing training programs, free medical outreach, and efforts to tackle medical quackery.
He sought the government’s support for an upcoming medical outreach scheduled for October 26-30, 2024, at Gulak General Hospital, with a target of 100 surgeries and consultations for 2,000 patients.
In his response, Governor Fintiri expressed heartfelt gratitude for the honor and reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to healthcare.
He promised continued support for the NMA’s initiatives and lauded the dedication of healthcare workers in Adamawa, encouraging them to keep their foot on the gas in safeguarding the health and well-being of the citizens.
