As part of the celebrations marking Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s five-year anniversary in office, the long-awaited 40km Maiha/Pella road has been officially commissioned, bringing joy to the benefiting communities.
Originally awarded during the administration of former Governor Murtala Nyako, the road project experienced numerous delays and revisions under subsequent administrations. It was eventually revoked and completed by Governor Fintiri’s administration, 17 years after its initial approval.
During the inauguration ceremonies held in Pella and Maiha, Governor Fintiri highlighted that the road is the longest single project executed and commissioned by his administration. The road connects Hong and Maiha Local Government Areas (LGAs) and is expected to enhance access to farming, education, markets, and other socio-economic opportunities, thereby reducing poverty and improving livelihoods.
At the commissioning event in Maiha, Governor Fintiri expressed gratitude for the community’s support and promised further development, including expanded road networks and additional democratic dividends.
Retired General Haladu Hanania praised Governor Fintiri’s commitment to state development over the past five years. He acknowledged the Governor’s interventions across various LGAs, especially in Hong, and prayed for his continued success.
State Commissioner of Works and Energy Development, Adamu Atiku Abubakar, revealed that the project was initially awarded in 2007 to AG Vision but was later revoked due to non-performance. He commended Governor Fintiri for re-awarding the project to a more competent contractor who completed it within seven months, well ahead of the 12-month schedule.
Notable attendees, including the Senator representing the zone, the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, and the District Head, also expressed their appreciation for the project. They noted that the road’s condition had deteriorated due to Boko Haram insurgent attacks and that the completed project provides significant relief to the affected communities.
The dignitaries pledged their continued support for Governor Fintiri as he celebrates his five-year anniversary and continues his efforts to improve the state’s infrastructure.
