Prof. Bakari Adamu Girei, born on March 26, 1966, in Girei, Adamawa State, has recently been appointed as the CMD/CEO. His educational journey began at Girei I Primary School and continued through Government Secondary School Numan, School of Basic Studies at Ahmadu Bello University, and ultimately Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he earned his MB, BS degree between 1984 and 1989.
Further enhancing his expertise, Prof. Bakari obtained an MSc in Biomedical Education from the University of Ibadan and has been awarded fellowships by several prestigious institutions including the West African College of Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Endocrinology, the Institute of Management Consultants, and the Endocrine and Metabolism Society of Nigeria.
His medical career began at the Specialist Hospital Yola, followed by various positions leading up to his role as a Professor of Medicine and Consultant Physician. Prof. Bakari also served as the pioneer Provost of the College of Medical Sciences at Modibbo Adama University, Yola, and has held significant administrative roles at Ahmadu Bello University, including Dean and Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, and Head of the Department of Medicine.
Throughout his career, Prof. Bakari has been an active member of the medical community, serving on the boards of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital and the university’s Governing Council, and contributing to numerous committees. An accomplished academic and physician, he has published over a hundred scholarly articles and supervised numerous advanced-degree candidates. He has also been involved in the governance of medical associations and is a recipient of several honors, including the Rivers State Governor’s NYSC Honors award and Mr. President’s NYSC National Honors Award.
Prof. Bakari’s extensive experience and contributions to medicine and academia underscore his suitability for his new role as CMD/CEO.
