In a significant move ahead of the local government elections in Adamawa set for July 13, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has mandated that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) select 21 women as chairmanship running mates.

Governor Fintiri, who leads the PDP in Adamawa, issued this directive during a stakeholders’ meeting at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Yola, on Tuesday. He emphasized the party’s commitment to recognizing and supporting the contributions of women, assuring that his administration would give them the attention they deserve.

Addressing the stakeholders, Fintiri warned against any acts of sabotage or anti-party activities during the elections, labeling such behavior as detrimental to the PDP. He urged those involved in such actions during the 2023 governorship election to rectify their mistakes.

The Governor also called on candidates who may lose in the primary elections to accept the outcomes gracefully. He stressed the importance of free and fair primary elections within the party.

In his remarks, the State Chairman of the PDP, Barrister Tahir Shehu, stated that the meeting was convened to discuss the party’s preparations for the upcoming local government election. Shehu highlighted the party’s plan to campaign across the state and urged contestants to support the eventual flag bearers for chairmanship and councilorship positions.

Barrister Shehu reiterated that leadership is determined by destiny and urged stakeholders to ensure a successful and harmonious election process.
