The District Head of Girei Dr. Ahmed Ibrahim Mustapha has commissioned a fully equipped mediation and Dialogue centre built by Mercy Corps, funded by the European union under the Comitas project implemented in Adamawa and Taraba States.
The District Head who lauded the effort of the European Union for fostering peace to the community as well as strengthened traditional conflict resolution noted that despite challenges the Comitas project has achieved a milestone in creating peace and harmony among farmers and headers in the community and the state at large.
The Ubandoma Adamawa expressed optimism that the mediation centre will go along way in sustaining peace and understanding between them as well as providing sustainable structures set by the Comitas project.
Earlier in a remark Tog Gang of the Technical Resources and quality Unit of mercy corps explained that the aim of building the centre titled Zauren sulhu is to ensure the resolution of disputes by the governed laws of the Community without litigation.
He added that the center will promote dialogue and understanding that will address immediate conflict as well as strengthening long term relationship and collaboration within the community.
Tog Gang urged the users to view community mediation as very important to promote and foster cultural understanding and cooperation in the community and environs.
Also speaking the project manager for COMITAS TWO Under the International Organisation for Migration IOM Amos Nderi hinted that the center signifies the efforts of the COMITAS TWO project partners in improving communal relation, strengthening traditional means of conflicts resolution as well as collaboration over natural resources.
He express satisfaction that the center will aid sustainability plans that will have a lasting impact on the communities
In their separate Goodwill messages the project managers of COMITAS TWO project of mercy corps Emmanuel malaye and that of Search for Common Ground represented by Fwa appreciate EU for funding the project in Adamawa and Taraba States to mitigate farmers and headers conflict, adding that with the project peaceful coexistence was created among members of the community calling for sustainability of structures.
The mediation and Dialogue center tittied Zauren sulhu was build and equipt by mercy corps under COMITAS TWO project funded by EU in Girei local government.
The handover ceremony of the center and peace structures to the local government and traditional title holders as well as the community took place at The palace of the District Head Girei .
The COMITAS project as implemented since 2020 by search for common ground, IOM ,and mercy corps have contributed immensely in addressing conflict over natural resources in Adamawa and Taraba states.
