Fintiri,PDP N/East Reaffirms Support for Damagum, Urges Respect for Court Order

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) chapters in Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe states have declared their support for Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum’s leadership as Acting National Chairman.

Speaking on behalf of the five states, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri expressed confidence in Damagum’s leadership, particularly since his assumption of office.

Governor Fintiri pointed out that a Federal High Court in Abuja had issued a restraining order, which bars the appointment of a new chairman and permits Damagum to serve out the tenure of former Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu unless the court decides otherwise.

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Humwashi Wonosikou, conveyed Fintiri’s praise for Damagum’s efforts in restoring public trust in the party.

Fintiri further urged party members to uphold the court’s ruling for the benefit of both the PDP and the democratic process.

Governor Fintiri also highlighted the party’s remarkable performance in the North East during the 2023 elections, which he described as unprecedented.

He emphasized that the region rightfully deserves to hold the National Chairman position more than any other section in northern Nigeria.

It is important to note that the Federal High Court’s order prevents the PDP’s National Working Committee, Board of Trustees, National Executive Committee, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from replacing or nominating a new chairman other than Damagum.
