The new Controller of Federal Fire Service, Adamawa/Taraba Zone, has called on road users to always give his men the right of way when they hear sirens of firefighting trucks on the road.
Mr. Hassan Liman, who made the call in an interview with NAS FM’s Tasi’u Hassan in his office in Yola, also promised to prioritise the training of people on safety standards and the use of portable fire extinguishers, to prevent the occurrence of fire incidents.
Liman, said despite the sirens, some motorists still block their ways, a development he said, makes them arrive late at the scene of fire incidents.
He laments how some people stone and assault their men for responding to fire incidents late, saying it is not their fault to arrive late, as many times, people don’t call them in time.
The controller, therefore, urged the members of the public to call their emergency lines right away, before the fire reaches a decaying stage, so as to respond quickly.
Mr. Hassan Liman, also advised the public to allow firemen to do their work professionally, without interference, explaining that, sometimes residents and volunteers join the firefighting, thereby delaying the process.
He added that there are people who come to fire scenes in the name of rendering support, but end up stealing property, hence the need for communities to help the fire service secure the scenes, to block hoodlums and thieves from accessing.

The Adamawa/Taraba Zonal Controller of the Federal Fire Service said that apart from firefighting, they also conduct rescue and emergency operations in the event of boat mishap, building collapse, flood disaster, among other humanitarian services, and advised people to call them during such incidents.
