Adamawa legislators to make wearing Life jacket compulsory on it water ways.

Adamawa State House Assembly mandated a committee to liaise with council chairmen and community leaders on the compulsory use of live jacket in plying canoes on water ways

The move was part of the matter of Urgent Public Importance by the Member representing Fufore Gurin constituency, Barrister Ismaila Umar Bobboi and seconded by member representing Toungo Constituency, Calvin Kefas at a resume plenary Monday.

This Followed the tragic incidents at Njuwa lake and River Nunawa in Gurin in Yola South and Fufore local governments respectively.

Presenting the matter on the floor of the house, Barrister Ismaila Umar Bobboi prayed that a committee should be mandated for condolence and on the need for Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency to provide support to the affected areas.

Contributing, Member representing Demsa Constituency, Kate Raymond Mamuno described the incidents as tragic, stressed the need for residents along the banks to make a wearing of live jacket as mandatory in plyng canoes.

Also, members representing Yola South constituency, Kabiru Mijinyawa, Numan Pwamwakaino Makonndo, Guyuk Sunday Peter called for investigation on the water ways transportation.

They also noted that the canoe mishaps are as a result of over loading, call for safety measures.

The speaker, Bathiya Wesley therefore mandated a Seven Man Committee to be chaired by the Deputy speaker to liaise with local government chairmen, traditional rulers to sensitize communities in river bank across Adamawa State.

The plenary observed a minute silence was observed at the plenary for the souls departed on the tragic incidents.

Conclusively, the speaker Bathiya Wesley also announced his election as the vice chairman Northern speakers Forum Held in Abuja Last week.
