By Zakariyya Aliyu Gwaram

The President of the Nigeria Labour Party, Comrade Joe Ajaero, has been released on bail by the Department of State Security (DSS). Ajaero was detained on Monday morning at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, while en route to the United Kingdom for an official engagement.

He was scheduled to attend the Trade Union Congress conference in London, which commenced on Monday, 9th September 2024.

The confirmation of his release came from activist and former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, who shared the news via X (formerly Twitter) on Monday night. Human rights advocate and lawyer to the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Deji Adeyanju, also verified Ajaero’s release in a message confirmed by genuine news sources.

Earlier, the NLC convened an emergency meeting, demanding Ajaero’s release by midnight on Monday to avoid a nationwide economic shutdown.
