Ministry, Partners Educate Karewa Students on Hand Washing

Published by Abdulaziz Ibrahim

The Adamawa State Ministry of Water Resources, in partnership with several stakeholders, has embarked on a sensitization campaign at Karewa G.R.A Primary School, Yola North, to instill the habit of regular hand washing among students. The initiative is aimed at promoting healthy living through clean hands, in line with the global effort to prevent the spread of diseases.

During the event, students were educated on the importance of washing hands before and after eating, after using the toilet, and in other daily activities. This year’s Global Handwashing Day, with the theme “Why Are Clean Hands Still Important?”, served as the foundation for the message delivered to the schoolchildren.

The Commissioner of Water Resources, Ayuba Tanko, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Muhammed Auwal Ibrahim, addressed the students, emphasizing the role of routine hand washing in disease prevention. He encouraged the children to take the message home and practice it consistently to protect themselves and their families from infectious diseases.

Similarly, the Adamawa State Coordinator of the WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) Sector, Umar Sajo Aliyu, highlighted the importance of cultivating the habit of hand washing in children from an early age. He stressed that the practice is crucial for maintaining good health.

Abubakar Salihu, the Head Teacher of Karewa G.R.A Primary School, acknowledged that hand washing education has long been part of the school’s daily routine. However, he expressed the school’s commitment to increasing efforts to further sensitize both students and their parents on making hand washing a regular practice.

As part of the event, the Ministry and its partners donated cartons of soap and provided a live demonstration of proper hand washing techniques to ensure that students fully understood the practice.

This collaboration marks a step forward in promoting hygiene and preventing disease transmission among young learners in Adamawa State.
