Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri officially inaugurated the Pilot Ranch Project of the National Livestock Transformation Plan (NLTP) at Gongoshi Grazing Reserve in Mayo Belwa Local Government Area of Adamawa State on Friday.
The initiative aims to settle herders in a designated area, providing 30 hectares of land for 32 participating households, each contributing one animal and one trainee.
Governor Fintiri emphasized that the NLTP is geared towards transforming the livestock sector, addressing farmer-herder conflicts, and enhancing overall agriculture, including fisheries, forestry, water, and soil management. In line with his administration’s commitment to inclusivity, the State Livestock Transformation Office (SLTO) was established to align with NLTP activities.
The Governor highlighted additional programs such as the Adamawa Agribusiness Support Programme and a livestock vaccination campaign against transboundary diseases. He expressed gratitude to NLTP and SLTO for their efforts, anticipating the project’s replication in other parts of the state.
Professor Ambrose Voh, Coordinator of SLTO, explained that NLTP is a decade-long federal government initiative aiming to transition animal husbandry from nomadism to modern ranching. He commended Governor Fintiri for funding NLTP and stressed that the pilot project will facilitate pasture growth and water provision.
Governor Fintiri, accompanied by Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta and SSG Auwal Tukur, inspected the facility as part of the administration’s commitment to functional healthcare across the state.
The initiative was acknowledged by the Village Head of Dikon, Alhaji Ardo Bamanga, who expressed gratitude and pledged nomads’ full ownership of the pilot project.
The project has the theme; Transformating Livestock Ecosystem of Adamawa state through National Livestock Transformation Plan.
