Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri visited Shuwa and Kirchinga in Madagali Local Government Area to sympathize with flood victims.

The flood affected 11 communities, impacted around 14,000 people, and resulted in 6 deaths. It also disrupted daily life by destroying homes, shops, and other properties, while cutting off the Shuwa bridge that connects Adamawa and Borno States.

In an interview, Governor Fintiri expressed sorrow over the situation and promised continued government support.

He mentioned that although the flooding warning from the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) arrived late, he urged the appointment of a local officer from the agency to work with the state government in providing timely information to the public.

The governor also revealed that efforts are underway to push for the construction of more bridges and to repair the bad roads on the Madagali/Michika highway.

The Chairman of Madagali LGA, Simon Shashi, confirmed that the state government has sent relief materials, which are being distributed at various camps.

Witnesses narrate that the heavy rain from the Mandara mountain caused significant damage, washing away many belongings.
