Gov Fintiri Celebrates Victory and Swears in New Local Government Council Chairmen

In a significant political event, His Excellency,Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the 21 newly elected Local Government Council Chairmen.

This followed the election that was conducted on Saturday July 13, where the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, won all the 21 chairmanship seats and 225 councilorship seats while New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, got one councilorship seat

In his speech, Governor Fintiri congratulates the newly elected Chairmen and the 226 Councilors who secured victories in the Saturday election.

The Governor expressed gratitude to the citizens of Adamawa for their overwhelming support and reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling their expectations.

He emphasized that the election results were a testament to the effective governance and positive impact of the PDP at both the state and local levels.

Governor Fintiri also commended the Adamawa State Independent Electoral Commission (ADSIEC) for conducting a credible and transparent election.

He highlighted the state’s achievement of successfully organizing local government elections three times in five years, underscoring the PDP’s dedication to democratic principles.

Addressing the newly sworn-in Chairmen, Governor Fintiri reminded them of the immense responsibilities that come with their positions.

He urged them to remain accessible and responsive to the needs of their constituents, emphasizing that absenteeism would not be tolerated.

The Governor also highlighted the importance of financial autonomy for local governments, a policy already implemented in Adamawa State ahead of the recent Supreme Court judgment.

Governor Fintiri called for transparency and accountability, stressing that the citizens are more vigilant and expect their leaders to utilize public funds responsibly.

He warned against corruption and urged the Chairmen to focus on alleviating the hardships faced by the people due to national economic policies.

In his welcome address, the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Awwal Tukur, noted the importance of local government elections, as councils are closest to the people.

He thanked Governor Umaru Fintiri for providing an environment that allows free and fair local government elections.

The State Chairman of the PDP, Barrister Tahir Shehu, reminded the newly sworn-in chairmen that their election was due to Governor Fintiri’s integrity and urged them to follow his example and deliver good governance.

Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Suleiman Ahmed, Executive Chairman of Toungo Local Government Area, expressed gratitude for their mandate, attributing it to Governor Fintiri’s leadership.

He pledged their commitment to diligently perform their duties and support the administration’s development agenda for the benefit of Adamawa State.

The Chairmen promised to deliver visible benefits of democracy in their local governments and assured they would not disappoint their voters.

The State Chief Judge, Justice Hapsat Abdurrahman, administered the oath of office and allegiance to the chairmen.

The occasion was attended by various dignitries including Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly,Bathiya Wesley,former Taraba state governor Jolie Nyame,PDP party Chairmen of other states,President of the Customary Court,Security Agencies among others.
