The Executive Director, Rule of Law and Accountability Advocacy Centre, Mr Okechukwu Nwanguma said persistence problems of police brutality, human rights violations, extrajudicial killings and excess use of force by the police are the global insecurity that needs to be addressed.
Mr Okechukwu made the assertion during the inauguration of civil society organisations observatory on the implementation of the Police Act 2020 and the Police Trust Fund Act 2019 and capacity building for the North East zone held in Yola, the Adamawa state capital.
He maintained that the forum was organised to bring people from all walks of life to acquaint them with the two Police Acts for effective service delivery.
Also speaking, the Assistant Inspector General of Police AIG Zone III, Daniel Sokari-Pedro and the Adamawa state Commissioner of Police Sikiru Kayode Akande, who were represented by the Assistant Commissioner of Police state CID Yola, Barrister Nkem Raphael, said the event was timely considering the massive reforms in the Police institutions.
In her paper presentation, the Adamawa state Coordinator of Human rights Commission, Mrs Grace Mamza, said the workshop will yield positive results.
Some of the participants expressed happiness for being part of the event, saying it will go a long way in fostering police community relationships.
