Adamawa state Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Tuesday received the delegation of National Assembly Adhoc Committee on International dispute on potential matters.
Rising from the National Assembly deliberation 5th July,2023,the house mandated the delegation on a fact finding mission to investigate and as well proffer holistic recommendations and resolutions to the boundary dispute in Adamawa state.
The Governor, Rt Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri while welcoming the team revealed some facts and state of the situation at the moment. According to him, it’s a fact that the affected communities were against being ceded to Cameroon Republic and that their complaints, concerns and apprehension were all genuine.
He mentioned 9 local governments from Adamawa that share boundary with Cameroon which include;Tongo,Maiha,Mubi among others.
The governor expressed dismay over the compromised by the National Boundary Commission, Non-governmental organizations and International meddlers who were evident to coerce the communities with threats and financial inducement.
Due to apparent lack of transparency, Governor Fintiri urged the National Boundary Commission to provide modus operandi of their activities to assist the National Assembly Adhoc Committee in carrying out its functions.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri hoped that the provision of International Crises Group ICG 2002, Paragraph 120-24, and page 74-5 will be upheld.
Similarly, the governor suggested the return of traditional boundaries as the ancestral lineage can surely assist in resolving the dispute.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation Hon. Beni Lar Member representing Langtang North, Langtang South Federal Constituency said the motion on the case of deliberate displacement and possible encroachment by Cameroon republic was moved by Hon. Zechariah Nyampa representing Michika/Madagali federal constituency.
The legislator said the visit to the governor was to obtain first-hand knowledge. While appreciating proactive indulgence from the state boundary commission, she is equally optimistic that the effort will facilitate the success of their assignment.
The delegations comprise of representatives of Nigerian security forces and are expected to depart Yola for Michika Wednesday.
