Adamawa State First Lady Distributes Aid to 1200 Widows on International Widows Day

The United nations has set aside twenty third of June every year to mark international day of widows with the aim to support women
and eliminate all forms of discrimination against.

It is against this background that the wife of the Adamawa state Governor Hajiya Lami Ahmadu Fintiri under her pet project Pro life Empowerment Foundation FAPEP in collaboration with the Renewed Hope initiative has distributed food items and cash to 1200 widows across the 21 local government areas.

The theme for this year is Gender Equality and Culture of widowhood in Nigeria which target the elimination of stigma and hardship that Pave way to awarenes on issues affection widows and children in the society.

Presenting her speech during the events the first lady lami Ahmadu Fintiri stressed the readiness of her foundation FAPEF in supporting women, children and the less privilege to feel a sense of belonging in the society.

She further applauded the effort of the first Lady of Nigeria Oluremi Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing palliative support to widows, noting that the gesture will go along way in alleviating there suffering.

Lami Fintiri also called for the reform of policies, traditional and cultural beliefs and practice shows negative impacts on widowhood as well as advocate for widows right and acces to social amenities.

Also speaking the commissioner for women affairs Nedo Geoffrey Kofulto said that the Fintiri administration has instituted programs that will enhance and support the life of widows and children to be financially independent as well as ensuring their security.

In a remark the president widows association in the state Amina Ghumdia who identified some challenges affecting widows appreciate the first lady lami Fintiri for always reaching out to them.

Beneficiaries from various local government areas that received fifty bags of rice each commended the first lady of Adamawa State for the assistance at their difficult moments
