The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved the supply of agricultural inputs worth over two billion, eight hundred million naira for sale at a fifty percent discount to farmers for the 2024 rainy farming season.
The inputs include forty-one thousand, one hundred and seventy-nine bags of fifty-kilogram NPK 20 10 10 fertilizer, one hundred and twenty-three thousand, three hundred and eighty-one kilograms of assorted maize seeds, and fifty-five thousand, seven hundred and forty-one liters of pesticides, which will also be used for dry season farming.
The State Commissioner of Information and Strategy, Mr. Iliya James, disclosed this to Government House Correspondents after a council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Mr. James stated that due to the current hunger in the country, the government decided to procure these inputs to enhance farming activities and ensure food security in the state.
The Commissioner also revealed that the council has approved additional work on a new project at the Government House, Yola, costing over one billion naira. This additional work includes constructing a massive retaining wall to address the landscape’s slope, extensive site filling, and an elaborate gatehouse.
Furthermore, the council has approved the engagement of a consultant for the design and supervision of an administrative block, male and female hostels, and classroom halls at the College of Health Technology Michika, costing over one hundred and seventeen million naira.
Mr. James added that the council has also approved the procurement of hospital furniture for seven newly built secondary healthcare centers in the state at a cost of over one hundred and twenty-two million naira.
This project was initially contracted at over three hundred and fifty million naira, bringing the total cost to over four hundred and seventy-two million naira.
Additionally, the council approved the engagement of a consultant for the design and supervision of a computer-based training center and twin lecture theatres at the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Yola, at a cost of over ninety-nine million naira.
