Adamawa PDP Condemns APC Tactics in Edo Election, Claims Victory Was Stolen

In what appears to be a classic case of electoral malpractice, the Adamawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised the alarm over what it describes as foul play in the recently concluded Edo Governorship Election.

The chapter, in a statement issued on Tuesday, September 24, 2024, expressed deep concerns over alleged manipulation, which they claim robbed their candidate of victory.

Speaking during a press conference in Yola, Barrister Tahir Shehu, the State Chairman of the Adamawa PDP, minced no words in condemning what he termed “desperate” tactics by the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to Shehu, the APC resorted to violent manipulation in a bid to subvert the will of the Edo electorate, a move the PDP believes will erode public trust in the democratic process and deepen voter apathy.

“The desperation of the APC to cling to power at all costs is not only damaging to the political landscape but also a grave threat to our nation’s democracy,” Shehu stated emphatically.

He further aligned with the views of the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Amb. Umar Iliya Damagum, and the PDP Governors’ Forum, led by Governor Bala Mohammed, that the election was compromised beyond repair.

On another note, Shehu took the opportunity to endorse the appointment of Senator Umar Iliya Damagum as the party’s acting National Chairman, in line with Section 47(6) of the PDP Constitution.

He affirmed that Adamawa PDP fully supports Damagum in steering the party forward following the exit of the former National Chairman.

As the dust continues to settle over the Edo polls, the Adamawa PDP insists that democracy will only thrive when the people’s voice is heard loud and clear—free from violence and manipulation.
