The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in the State has committed to supporting government efforts by initiating a tree-planting campaign to combat deforestation and global warming. They are calling on all stakeholders to join this important cause.
State NYSC Coordinator Muhd Lawan Ahmed announced this during the opening ceremony for the 2023/2024 Batch B stream 1 corps members.
The coordinator praised the governor, describing him as the most NYSC-friendly governor in the country. He congratulated the governor for being recognized as the best in infrastructural development for the second consecutive time, attributing this to his purposeful leadership.
Muhd Lawan expressed his gratitude to the Governor for acknowledging the essential role of corps members in society and for his ongoing support, including supplementing the feeding of corps members and officials, providing a monthly allowance of 10,000 naira to corps members, and renovating some facilities in the camp.
He reassured that the NYSC and corps members are committed to upholding their responsibilities, particularly in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, which he believes will significantly enhance educational development throughout the state.
The State Coordinator urged the corps members to foster healthy interactions, build friendships, promote peace and unity, and take precautions against cholera, emphasizing that their health is crucial to the success of the scheme.
Governor AhmaduUmaruFintiri,while welcoming the corps members to the state, informed them that Adamawa remains one of the most peaceful states in the country despite its over 80 ethnic groups and social differences. He encouraged them to remain vigilant about their security.
The governor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continue paying the 10,000 naira monthly allowance to corps members serving in the state and 20,000 naira to those teaching in government schools at the end of their service year He mentioned various incentives introduced to ensure the scheme’s success in the state.
He also highlighted the achievements of his administration in infrastructure, education, health, security, and human development, which he believes will make their service year memorable.
Earlier, the Commissioner of Youth and Sports Development, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, thanked the governor for his support of the NYSC. He urged the corps members to adhere to their oaths and embrace the skills acquisition training designed to make them job creators rather than job seekers.
The oath of allegiance was administered to the 1,023 corps members by the State Chief Judge, Barr Hafsat Abdulrahman.
