In a case of “better safe than sorry,” the Adamawa State Executive Council (EXCO) convened it’s 14th session,Tuesday,issuing stern warnings and taking proactive steps to tackle impending flood disasters, enhance infrastructure, and improve healthcare services.
The Adamawa State government, expressing deep sympathy for the Borno State government over recent flood disasters, also received an alert about potential flooding in several local governments within Adamawa.
The government warned communities in Madagali, Mubi North, Shelleng, Demsa, Numan, Song, and Yola to prepare for possible flooding starting on September 16th.
Authorities urged residents to move to higher ground, and schools in the affected areas will remain closed during this period to ensure student safety. 
In addition to the flood warnings, the EXCO approved a contract for the extension of the Samunaka Stormwater Drainage project, aimed at combating persistent flooding in the state capital.
The contract, valued at N3.94 billion, was awarded to Triton Nigeria Limited for a six-month duration.
The project includes the excavation and construction of a 2.4-kilometer stormwater drain to connect existing culverts, a move expected to alleviate flooding in the affected areas.
The council also approved the handover of the upgraded Mubi General Hospital to the Federal Medical Center, marking the second such transfer after the Hong General Hospital.
This transition will bring better healthcare services closer to residents, reducing the need for long-distance travel for referrals to tertiary healthcare facilities.
Additionally, the indicative budget for 2025, totaling N268.87 billion, was approved, aligning with the Medium-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).
This budget focuses on fiscal discipline and technical efficiency, ensuring the proper allocation of resources to critical areas for the state’s development.
In response to the flood threat, the government is working closely with relevant agencies like NIMET and the Federal Ministry of Environment, and has stocked essential drugs in anticipation of flood-related health issues.
