Adamawa State House of Assembly has mandated its joint health committee, to check the proliferation of Colleges of Health Technology, to address quackery in the state’s health sector.
This is sequel to a motion under matter of urgent public importance moved by member representing Mubi South Constituency, Sahabo Yohanna during plenary presided over by Speaker Bathiya Wesley.
He recalled that the Adamawa State Health Insurance Agency recently released a report on maternal mortality rate, which indicates that six hundred and thirty-six women, died at theq hands of quack health workers during childbirth in the state.
Sahabo Yohanna claimed that most of the private Colleges of Health Technology did not meet the standard, hence the need for the house to investigate their operations.
Contributing, members representing Fufore -Gurin and Uba Gaya Constituencies Umar Bobbo Isma’ila and Adum John noted that health institutions are for service provisions and not profit making, therefore, the institutions must get operational licenses.
The Speaker of the House Bathiya Wesley, who said that issues of health involve the lives of all citizens, mandated the Joint House Committee on Health to within two weeks, find out whether the health colleges are duly registered and have minimum standard of operation or not.
