The Consultant of RHAMO Enterprise, Dr. John Ngamsa, has urged traditional rulers to encourage the girl-child to return to school for the overall development of society.
Dr. Ngamsa made the call during a sensitization campaign on girl-child education, organized in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE and the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, held at Ngurore Community in Yola South Local Government Area of Adamawa State.
The consultant explained that the AGILE programme aims to promote girl-child education by encouraging adolescent girls to develop interest in schooling and by engaging the community to support female education.
According to him, the campaign was designed to reach people in rural and semi-urban areas, who, like others, face similar educational challenges, and to formally launch the programme within those communities.
Dr. Ngamsa further emphasized that the purpose of the sensitization was to involve communities directly and promote the return of girls to school.
He added that the importance of educating the girl-child cannot be overemphasized, stressing that it is key to the progress and development of society.
Also speaking, the AGILE Project Coordinator, Engineer Sadiq Liman, who was represented by Mr. Japhet Cafta, explained that the project aims to promote and empower girl-child education across the state.
He noted that educating a girl-child is educating a nation, and urged traditional rulers to sensitize their wards and communities on the importance of sending girls back to school.
In his remarks, the District Head of Ngurore, Alhaji Pappa Lawan, appreciated the Adamawa State Government for its support, describing girl-child education as a crucial step forward in the education sector.
Alhaji Lawan pledged to continue educating his wards and encouraged the community to embrace the initiative.
The Lead Researcher of RHAMO Enterprise, Mr. Geoffrey Naptali, and the Councilor of Ngurore, called on women and children to embrace girl-child education and pledged their support for the sustainability of the programme.
