The people of Madagali Local Government Area are enduring tough times as the vital Waga Bridge, which connects their community to neighboring Gwoza Local Government, remains in ruins.
The bridge, destroyed by heavy rains, has disrupted trade, travel, and access to essential services, leaving many residents struggling to carry out daily activities.
Helen Joshua, a local resident, described the challenges facing the community. “It’s difficult to reach our farms, and this is the peak of the farming season.
Women are particularly suffering, as they have to carry their harvests over long distances without the bridge.”
However, relief may be on the horizon. Muhammad Alkali Goni, Managing Director of the Northeast Development Commission (NEDC), announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed and approved the reconstruction of the Waga Bridge.
The NEDC also inspected the bridge at Wautu, confirming that it too will be included in the reconstruction efforts.
The rebuilding of Waga Bridge is expected to bring significant positive changes.
According to Mathew Bulus Maziga, the bridge is a crucial link between Madagali and Gwoza, facilitating trade and transportation.
Once restored, it will reconnect communities, revive local economies, and improve access to essential services. For residents like Helen Joshua, this could not come soon enough.
