Adamawa Governor Urged to Back Non-Political Unity Sports Tournaments for Statewide Progress

Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has been advised to patronise unity sports tournaments organized by non-political actors in Adamawa for optimum progress of the sector and strengthen of unity in diversity.

The call was made by Comrade Jonah Danlemu Danladi when he appeared on Nas FM sports programme “Sportstime”.

Comrade Jonah noted that several non-political stakeholders have organized unity tournaments with significant evidence of promoting tolerance and unity, but efforts to bring the government on board for moral support were fruitless.

He argued that tournaments such as the Daware Unity Football Tournament, which sent bona-fide Adamawa indegenes to play in Europe,Velvot Competition, which realised the participation of Adamawa indegenes in Nationwide League by a non-state team from Adamawa and Pitapwa Unity Football Competition that brought the 21 local government to compete are evidence enough to invite the state government to patronise sports tournaments by non-political actors.

Another guest of the programme, Coach Mourinho of Yola South, opined that the presence of the government in grassroots tournaments provides avenue for the governor to witness and listen to the voters challenges.

Callers in the programme, Sabiu Baba from Lamurde and Ibbi Zaku of Numan, both agreed that when government patronise grassroots tournaments fairly they have the opportunity to witness numerous skilful potential sons and daughters of the state citing Basketball, Football, Volley Ball and Polo amongst the sports Adamawa have unmatched potentials.

Therefore,governments at all levels are advised to support unity tournaments sports in Adamawa in order to boost moral as well as chatter ways to progress the sport sector.
