In a statewide address on Sunday, Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State spoke on the ongoing protests against bad governance, marking the fourth day of nationwide demonstrations.
He acknowledged the peaceful nature of protests in Adamawa, contrasting with more intense activities in other states.
Governor Fintiri recognized the protesters’ legitimate concerns, citing hunger, poverty, and inadequate government policies as key issues.
He emphasized the government’s responsibility to act on these concerns rather than merely acknowledging them.
The governor highlighted the administration’s efforts to address youth unemployment through the Ministry of Entrepreneurship, training programs, and the Fintiri Business Wallet initiative, which has benefited over 30,000 individuals.
He outlined steps taken to alleviate transportation challenges, including the introduction of a mass transit system and plans to expand it.
Governor Fintiri also stressed the importance of agriculture, announcing initiatives to support youth farming and subsidize agricultural inputs.
On education, the governor reaffirmed the commitment to free public schooling and ongoing investments in infrastructure, including 21 model schools and three senior technical schools.
Governor Fintiri praised the state’s healthcare improvements and ongoing projects while acknowledging the limitations of a subnational government in addressing certain macroeconomic issues.
He called for a collaborative approach with the federal government to meet protesters’ demands.
In conclusion, Governor Fintiri thanked citizens for their peaceful conduct and support, urging continued trust and cooperation to achieve good governance and better living conditions for all.
