ADSPHCDA in collaboration with UNICEF,WHO Organised media parley on Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Elimination MNTE in Adamawa

Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency in collaboration with UNICEF, UNFPA and WHO on Monday organized a media engagement meeting with stakeholders on Maternal Neonatal Tetanus Elimination MNTE.

The meeting which took place at SERRIC Hall of the Agency in Yola, had in attendance Some selected journalists from few media organizations in the State.

The Chairman Adamawa State primary health care development Agency Dr Suleiman Saidu Bashir represented by Hajiya Rashida Tahir welcome all those who attended the meeting.

According to him, media has been playing a very vital role in supporting the agency to carried out all of its activities across the State.

Dr Bashir further solicited for more support of the media to enlighten the public, particularly women on the need for them to cooperate with the agency to eliminate the disease by coming out to collect the vaccines which has since commenced on Tuesday in Numan LGA of the State.

In her presentation at the meeting, the Health Educator of the Agency Madam Lydia Adamu spoke extensively on the identity, effect and dangers associated with the disease, saying MNTE poses a serious challenge to women of child bearing age in Numan LGA of the State.

According to her the essence of the meeting was to solicit for the support of Journalists on their role in information dissemination to enlighten the public on the need for all to join hands to eliminate the disease.

Also contributing the State Immunization officer of the Agency Umar Abubakar Bahuli said they have received 29000 doses of the vaccines from the National primary health care development Agency in Abuja and with the kick start of the exercise in Numan LGA of the State they are now targeting 27 000 women in the second round of the exercise.

According to him, women who collected the vaccine during the first batch of the exercise in September 2022, should go ahead and collect the second jab and wait for the third one, while those who have not received any should try and get three doses of the vaccine for their safety.

Bahuli added that the data have shown that Numan, was the only council area in the State with high level of MNT infection, hence the need for all and sundry to join hands to eliminate the disease.

In his Goodwill massage, Communication officer of the Agancy Mr Ibrahim Audu appreciated the effort and enthusiasm of the Journalists who attended the meeting, assuring them of the Agency’s commitment to work hand in hand with the media in ensuring a Maternal Neonatal Tetanus free society.

Audu added that the participants should published more reports of their activities for reference purposes.

There were questions and answers sessions as well as group photographs at the climax of the meeting.
